A Side Project: Sprouts in a Box

We have got our hands on sprouts in a box! The seeds have been planted in their individual planter pots, and with water, sun and some words of encouragement, our seeds will grow into healthy seedlings.

Following these simple instructions we shall see sprouts in 14-21 days!

1. Place PLANTER POT on a flat saucer.
2. Place SEED PUCK in the bottom of the Pot.
3. Slowly pour 1/3 cup (80 ml) of WARM water onto Puck.
4. Allow 5 MINUTES for puck to expand.
5. DRAIN excess standing water.
6. PUSH ALL SEEDS into the Puck.
7. SMOOTH SOIL over the holes.
8. PLACE the Pot in warm, sunny spot until SPROUTS appear (14 to 21 days). WATER lightly only when surface looks dry. KEEP SPROUTED PLANTS DAMP.
9. Once the sprouts have grown 2"-3", CHOOSE 1 or 2 best growing plants and REMOVE the rest.
10. After danger of frost has passed. PLANT THE POT in a sunny garden (or larger indoor pot) deep enough to cover the Pot completely.

We are testing the sprouts in a box out now, so that when we hand them out in the spring we can provide helpful tips for happy, healthy sprouting.

Weeks later we see some green! It is important not to over water your sprouts. Using a spray bottle helps to keep the plants and soil damp, without the risk of drowning your little growing sprouts. The sprouts have been enjoying lots of sun, but we fear the indoor heat during the winter months might dry the soil out quickly. Spraying the sprouts twice a day is necessary to keep them damp! Talk about a commitment to these little guys!
