E-Waste Drive Success!

This past month, in partnership with MIDA RPM and Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES), the Mohawk College Sustainability Office successfully hosted an Electronic Waste Recycling Drive. Unwanted devices — printers, monitors, MacBooks, televisions, cellphones and used batteries — were collected, and will be properly disposed of in a way that is safe for the environment.

Generally speaking, e-waste consists of more than 92% recoverable and reusable commodities, so it is important to keep old electronics out of landfills and in recycling plants. Thanks to all those who participated! All of your old electronics are being sent out for the recycling process this week.

Introducing Mohawk College's Sustainability Office!

The concept of sustainability has been making news headlines for well over a decade. These days, politicians, businesses, and media are all flaunting something they are doing as “sustainable.” Alike, the term “green” is plastered on consumer products by companies wanting to appeal to the “tree huggers,” the environmentally conscious folk. The lack of a commonly agreed upon definition of sustainability, which applies to a multitude of interrelated issues — environment, economic and social — has been the cause of misunderstanding, contradictions and debate.

At Mohawk College, sustainability is no longer a Buzzword but a Way of Life. Mohawk College is committed to working alongside our community, businesses, other Colleges and Universities, and individuals to promote social, financial and environmental sustainability. Mohawk College recognizes the importance of creating policies that reduce impacts on the planet and ensure a prosperous future for generations to come.

Sustainable initiatives have been on campus for years but more recently, with the development of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP), Mohawk College is expanding these programs and services.

Introducing Mohawk College’s Sustainability Office! We are actively promoting waste management on campus, alternative transportation, and connecting Mohawk staff and students with green initiatives at the College and in the community. For more information visit: www.mohawkcollege.ca/sustainability
